hermaphrodite croton?

Question
After growing my croton for 10 years and seeing regular blossoms(?)  I noticed 3 seeds maturing on a lower branch. Is this normal for crotons?  Will the seeds be viable?  Will these seeds generate additional hermaphrodites (if indded this is what is happening) which could be used as seed factories?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank You

Answer
Don,

To begin with the word hermaphrodite does not apply in the plant world. If pollinated flowers produce seeds. It generally takes specific insects to pollinate flowers. If those flowers are not exposed to those insects at the right time for pollination you will not get seeds. Probably in the past the flowers were not pollinated. The seeds may or may not produce plants that will be exactly like the parent plant or will revert to being more like one of the grandparents. It is a gamble, you won't know till you grow the plant from the seed. Good luck with your seeds.
