mystery house plant...trying to identify

Question
Hi there...

We have a plant we are trying to identify. It has waxy leaves, and is a young offshoot of a larger mother plant. My mother thinks it might be a dracaena, but a Google image search of that genuse brought me to plants that looked more like bromelaids. She also thought it might be a "variegated" something?

Here is a picture we took today of our plant:

Any tips on care would be appreciated. Thank you so much for any help you can provide.

Answer
Donna,

It is a croton. It is tropical and needs to stay above 50 degrees. If it is put outdoors in a sunny location for the summer it will get red and yellow in the leaves. In far southern states it can be planted in the ground. In the north it has to be kept as a potted plant but it loves to go out for the summer.

Good luck,
Darlene
