crown of thorns

Question
I just got a crown of thorns plant. I have no clue on how to take care of it. I would appreciate any info on it.
Thank you

Answer
Corabell,

The latin name for it is Euphorbia splendens. If you cut or break a branch be careful. The white milky sap is VERY poisonous, use care, wash your hands afterwards! The plant should be treated like a cactus. Grow it in a very sunny south facing window with the window covering open from dawn to dusk. Because of the leaves, most people don't consider a Crown of thorns to be a succulent, but in reality it is. They should be watered once a week when they are in a growth cycle, but only once a month when dormant. Whether dormant or active, don't water until the soil is dry. It needs to be grown in cactus soil or a mix of half potting soil and half play sand. It must be in a pot with a drainage hole and it should not be allowed too sit with water in it's drain tray. It should only be repotted when it is severely rootbound and only repot it between April 15th and June 30th. If you have any further questions feel free to write again. Good luck.
