I just bought a Crown of Thorns Plant.  I need advice on the care of this plant.  I live in Houston TX.  Can it stay outside all year?  Do I plant it in cactus type soil?  What is best to fertalize, how often.  How much if any direct sun?  Any info you can give me would be great, I love this unusual plant.

I am sorry for the delay in answering you, have had some computer issues that are now resolved.

Can it stay outside all year?  No, as that particular plant should not be exposed to temperatures lower than about 40 degrees.

Do I plant it in cactus type soil?  Yes, that would be best. Remember, water only when the soil is dry.

What is best to fertilize, how often.  Maybe once every 2 months, less in the winter time.

How much if any direct sun? None unless it is used to it. Most nursery stock is greenhouse grown, which means it has never been in direct sun. Direct sun can kill even the toughest cactus if it isn't used to it.
