Chilly Plants

Question
I prefer keeping my house cool in the winter time (around 50 degrees).  Am having problems finding plants that will survive in the temp.  My cactus don't seem to mind, but I'd kinda like to have other plants in the house besides cactus.  I keep my pothos, purple passion, spider plant, etc. at the office for fear they would die if I took them home.  Know of any plants that like the cold like I do?

Answer
Gwen,

You don't mention the sun but you did mention cactus so I assume that you have plenty of sun. Many of the plants that like the cool are plants that bloom that love the sun. Orchids, bromeliads, begonias, tulips, daffodills, kalanchoe, lantana, your pothos would be fine and hibiscus would also work. You could also take your spider home. He would be fine. I would leave the purple passion at work. There is a good book called Great Plants for Cool Places by John Bracken. It is an older book so you can probably only find it in a used book swtore on on ebay but you would find it quite interesting if you can find it. Good luck.
