Cool Water or Cold?

Question
Hey guys, Jason from Arizona. I was wondering about temperature for watering my Fly Traps and Sarracenia and even my Dewy Pines. As it gets hotter here would it be hard on these plants or shock them if I put the water in the fridge to cool it to 40-50 degrees F. or should I stay with the water at room temp which is mid 70's? The water is distilled. Thanks Jason

Answer
Yes, it will shock the plants, but it won't kill them.  The plants will simply slow down their metabolism temporarily until the soil warms up again.  So you might not see as much vigorous growth if you use it daily.  But in your location, this would be all relative as I imagine the soil would heat up quickly.  You simply might not have vigorous growth because of the extreme summer heat.

Our experiments were with non-chilled water, which provided very good results.  So while you can use chilled water without harming your plants, it's not necessary to do so as long as you follow the recommendations for desert care.

Good growing!
