Question
Hi Darlene - i have had the above plant for almost a year.  i have noticed lately little fruit fly type flies.  i noticed today that the trunk has little flies.  is there a spray i can use to get rid of the flied?

Thanks much
Linda

Answer
Linda,

The flies are fungus gnats because the plant is being overwatered and the roos are beginning to rot. You have to dry the plant out as quickly as possible and the fungus gnats will go away. As for an insecticide you can spray them with rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle and it will kill any that you hit. The most important thing is you have to let it get dry for at least 3 days before you water it again, then the fungus roots will regrow and the fungus gnats will have nothing to feed on. Good luck.

Darlene
