planting a baby aloe plant

Question
i recieved a baby aloe leaf with the root attached im planting it in new soil and pot. Should i put it in dry soil or wet? and i read to mix sand in the soil is that true? and how much water should i give it while it grows also?

Answer
Angela,

Since it is a baby start it in a small pot with not more than a 3 inch diameter. Aloes do not ever have a lot of roots and do not like large pots or their roots rot in too much soil. Make sure the pot has a drainage hole and when you water it empty the drain tray. Yes, mix 1/2 potting soil & 1/2 sand and plant it into dry soil them put just a teaspoon of water on it the 1st day, wait 2 days and give it 1/2 cup of water. After that water it once a week but not if it is still wet from the week before and empty the drain tray an hour aqfter watering. Good luck.
