RUBBER TREE PLANT TRIMMING

Question
I HAVE A RUBBER TREE IN MY HOUSE NOW ABOUT 12 FEET TALL AND RUNNING OUT OF CEILING HEIGHT. WONDERING IF OK TO CUT 3-4 FEET OFF TOP WITH OUT HURTING PLANT FROM RE-GROWING. BET TIME OF YEAR AND WILL IT GROW BACK.

Answer
WM,

You can safely prune it now and the tree will regrow. What you probably can't do now is root the cuttings that you cut off. If you were pruning it in the spring of the year you would have a 50/50 chance of rooting the cuttings in soil using rooting hormone. It is much easier rooting cuttings when the days are lengthening, nearly impossible when the days are shortening. However the tree will have no problem with regrowing. Also do not try repotting in the fall, only repot in the spring. Sounds like a beautiful tree if it is that large. Good luck.
