mexican hat

Question
Hi i have had a Mexican hat plant given to me which i quite like, it seems to be growing well with big broad leaves on the top, and smaller leaves on the bottom what curl inwards. i have a problem thou which im hoping you can help. looking at the bottom of the stem going up to the second set of leaves there are roots coming out of the stem working towards the soil? is this normal? i can take a pics if you like.. what shall i do cut off the leaves and repot to the roots or just leave them??? please help me as i want to keep this plant as i really like it..thanks Rich

Answer
Rich,

It is normal for a Kalanchoe diagremontiana . If you would like to shorten the plant you can cut it off and replant it deeper in the pot and it will continue growing. Or you can simply replant the entire plant in a slightly larger deeper plant and put more soil over the roots. Soon there will be babie forming on the edges of the leave and dropping info the soil and they will start growing hundreds of little plants anywhere they touch soil, in the pot with the parent plant or in other pots with other plants.  You will haef hundreds of Kalanchoe diagremontiana plants to give to friends and family.Good luck.
