My fiddleleaf plant

Question
Hi, I keep my fiddle leaf outside here in Phx. AZ. I actually got it out of
someones trash.  It was doing pretty well for about a year, until we had an
unusual freeze.  It started coming back and doing well after the freeze. I cut
off the top half of the plant and the bottom all of a sudden started sprouting
new leaves like crazy.  Now I'm noticing that some of the leaves including the
tiny new leaves have brown spots.  I've been watering everything a lot
because we've already had temperatures reaching over 100 degrees.  What
are these brown spots? Am I over watering or what?

Answer
Patti,

The brown spots are an insect called scale. You can use Q-tips dipped in rubbing alcohol to remove the hard shelled ones and then spray the entire plant with rubbing alcohol to kill all the little white ones. Repeat the spraying every other day for 2 weeks to kill any eggs that hatch. With persistance you can kill these insects and the plant will be fine. I do not believe you are overwatering. Good luck.
