polishing leaves

Question
What may I use to polish the leaves of an indoor plant? The leaves of my croton are very dull and I'd like a suggestion to shine them without hurting them.

Answer
Missy,

Generally just a soft cloth works best. Anything you apply to the leaves of the plant will clog the pores of the leaves and the leaves will not breath as well, damaging the plant. If you absolutly have to use something I suggest that you try an insecticide called Neem oil. Many garden centers carry it including Lowes and it is an organic spray perfectly safe in the house. Mix it as the instructions say and spray the tops of the leaves. Let it dry then polish the leaves. There will be a very light coating of oil on the leaves that will shine them up quite nicely and it will also serve as an insecticide/fungicide for the plant. That is the only "polish" that I can reccomend. Good luck.
