lavender pests

Question
Hello! I have a lavender bought this summer (I think it has more than a year, not more than two years). I keep it indoors because I have no terrace or other possibility to keep it outdoors, but it's placed on a southern window. It was pot bound so I repoted it about three weeks ago. I recently observes some spider webs around some leaves and extremely small white spiders. How could I save my plant?

Answer
Anca,

Take the plant to the kitchen sink and spray it well with a heavy spray of water from the sprayer and you can literally wash away the spiders and their webs. However, this is a perennial plant and as such it probably needs a winter dormant period unless you live in a topical area or the plant came from the tropics. It may die back to the soil surface and go dormant for the winter. It needs to be kept in a cold area from 30-40 degrees Fahrenheit until it starts sending out new growth. Then you can set it in a sunny location again and treat it like you have. It does not need light when it is dormant so it can go in a paper bag in the garage if you have one or in a friends garage. You just need to water it about a 1/2 cup of water once a month during the dormancy so it does not totally dry out. After 90 days check it out to see if it is growing. Good luck.
