Pests

Question
I was wondering what was your natural remedy for getting rid of pests(roaches) inside the house?

Thanks

Mindi

Answer
Hi Mindi;
Roaches hate rosemary.
about every month or two I put a piece of fresh rosemary on each pantry and cupboard shelf, and under each appliance I put a piece about 3 inches long. Put some in the corners of closets, anywhere roaches can come in and/or hide.
I also use fresh lavender in the house.
It is a very relaxing aroma and will help you drift into a more relaxed sleep, and it also repels a lot of insects.
I think it is the lavender that chased the spiders.
Put a drop of lavender oil ( get it at a health food store) on your hand, rub them together, and rub all over a stuffed toy to give to a fussy baby. rock it a few minutes and it will be relaxed and sound asleep.
Sometimes babies get too tired to go to sleep. A faint lavender aroma will relax them in no time.
Fresh basil is another repellant. It repels fleas and ants.
I put chopped up lemon peel in my flower beds and outdoor containers, and cats don;t use them for a litter box.
I also get cedar oil and paint a small stripe of it along the clothes rods in my closets, and along the baseboard. Keeps critters out of my clostes.
I have a larg container at each entranceway, planted with lavender. It helps keep flies from coming in the house when the doors are opened.
I sprinkle cedar bark mulch all over my yard to repel fleas and ticks. We have 4 dogs.
Cedar repels a lot of insects, including termites.
Put a trail of cedar bark mulch about 2 inches wide and an inch high, around the foundation of your house, in the spring, when it is time for termites to swarm, and you will not get termite damage, and won't have to call an exterminator.
I throw chopped orange peel all over the yard to keep out fire ants.
Works like a charm.
