trimming and regrowing vines from a long pothos plant

Question
should anything be added to the water that i put the cuttings in? Did you mean that each long vine that is cut can be cut into several pieces to be rooted? Is there a best time of year to trim my pothos plant. Thanks, Terry

Answer
Hi Terry,

Long Pothos vines can be cut into multiple shorter sections. Each cutting should have one node (the bump on the vine where the leaf stem attaches to it) that is in constant contact with water and at least two leaves. The roots will form at the node and the cuttings can be transferred to soil when the roots are at least an inch long.

There is nothing you can add to the water that will enhance the rooting. If your tap water is on the hard side, use filtered or distilled instead.

Pothos are tropical in origin and are not seasonal. Therefore they can be trimmed at any time of the year. The calendar is irrelevant to Pothos and most houseplants.

I have written articles on Pothos and on propagating plants from cuttings that I will email to anyone who emails a request to my address below.

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
