Leaves paling and dropping from Ivy

Question
I was given a beautiful, large ivy houseplant about six weeks ago. I was told it needed a lot of water, and I notice it dries out very quickly. Now many of the leaves are turning pale green and falling off. I don't believe I have over-watered it as I tend to forget to do it. It is in a bright enough room which gets late afternoon sunshine, although the plant is not in direct sunlight. Its nearest window faces north. The room has a/c which is on most of the time and is quite cool. (I live in Florida). Yes, we have city water. I am sending a pic with this info to your yahoo address.
Thanks
Sue

Answer
Sue,

The cold draft from the air conditioner could be prat of the problem. How often are you watering it. It does need to dry out a bit between waterings. It should not be watered daily. Too much water kills faster than too little. The soil shoulld not be totally wet all the time.

It could also have spider mites. Look at it next to a window and see if you see spider webs covering the plant. If so take it outdoors and hose it off. That will eliminate them.

I wonder if it is getting enough light.  If the nearest window is a north window it should be sitting in front of that window so it gets plenty of light. Low light, and too much or too little water can all cause the symptoms you describe. IKf you are still not sure let me know how often you are watering it. Good luck.

Darlene
