gold cabella leaves turning all yellow

Question
QUESTION: Since we brought it indoors in a cool room it has started turning all the green leaves in the central portion of the plant YELLOW.  Some watering and feeding instructions could also be helpful.  Thank you.

ANSWER: Hi Doris,

I do not know any plant by that name nor could I find it in any of my reference sources. I need a complete botanical name to be able to answer any questions you may have about your plant.

Regards,
Will Creed

QUESTION: Well, I have not clue.  I took the name off the plastic card that is stuck in the plant dirt.  NOW THOSE YELLOW leaves are getting all black spotty and falling off.  Somewhere I had found this was native to So. Amer. and Africa and that is all I know. I do not know if this image will help----sitting behind my husband in corner. Doris

Answer
Hi-Doris,

Thanks for the rating and nomination. However, if you want a copy of my article on Schefflera care, you have to email your request to me at [email protected]. Otherwise, I have no email address to send it to. The owners of this site may have your email address, but I do not.

Hi Doris,

Thanks for the photo. Your plant is a variegated Schefflera arboricola. The 'Gold cabella' is a varietal or hybrid name that has no meaning when not attached to its species name. So much for helpful tags!

Your plant is shedding some if its inner leaves as it adapts to its new environment. Temps should not be cooler than 60 degrees, F. The location in the photo looks good as long as the glass door is uncovered during the day.

Water it thoroughly as soon as the top half-inch of soil is dry. Do NOT repot it and do not fertilize it more than monthly at half strength.

It will continue to shed some leaves until it is fully acclimated. Other than proper light, temperature and water, there is nothing more you can do except be patient.

I have written an article on Schefflera care that I will email for free to anyone who sends a request to me at my address below.

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
