LOTS of Yellow leaves

Question
Hi, I have a Dracaena Marginata, green variety. She is producing an insane number of yellow leaves on a daily
basis. It is a newer plant and I just thought it was going through an environment adjustment, but there are
more and more each day, and I am afraid she will loose all her leaves. I checked for bugs, and I do not over
water, I have not repotted, and it is in a spot with indirect light.  I am literally taking 8 to 10 completely yellow
leaves off every other day on a plant with three stalks aprox 4' tall. Help. Thx Emily

Answer
Emily,

How new is it? If you have just had it for less than 2 weeks then I suspect something happened to the plant before you got it. It got way too cold for too long or it was too dry for too long, or it was treated with a chemical that it should not have been. If you have not owned it long I would take it back to the store and demand a replacement.

Otherwise, if you have had it longer than a month it is your problem. Start with the indirect light and move it to where it will get some sun in the morning. This plant actually likes some sun, just not in the hot afternoon. It will drop leaves in a location so dark that your hand will not cast a shodow. Also has there been any air quality problems near it? Could there be a carbon monoxide problem or a lot of hair spray? Or could someone else be watering it that you are not aware of? After you water it you should also be emptying the drain tray so there is no excess water in the drain tray that could contribute toward rotting the roots.

You might also want to inspect the plant closely for insects. Look for scale (little spots on the backs of the leaves), spider mites (fine webs where the leaves join the stalks) or mealy bugs (white tufts of cotton on the stalk and leaves front or back). If you find signs of any of these insects you need to spray the entire plant with rubbing alcohol to kill the insects on contact. The you need to spray it twice a week for 4 weeks to make sure the eggs do not hatch out and more bugs come back.

That's all the possibilities. You will have to figure out which applies to your situation since I cannot see your plant. Good luck.
