Turning brown

Question
I live in Winston Salem, NC, and have a Venus fly trap. It stays outside and the potting mix I use is from you.  But I noticed the leaves are turning brown then black on them.  Is that normal?
Thank you.

Answer
Hi Stella,

Is it the older leaves at the base of the plant turning brown?  It it is then this is normal.  Venus flytraps, just like any plant, cycle through leaves during the growing season.  In October most of the leaves will blacken and die as the plant approaches dormancy.  If you are seeing the decline on newer leaves, another problem may exist.  If that's the case, be sure and send me a photo and I'll see if I can help you determine a course of action.

Good Growing!
