Bugs in a banana plant

Question
hello
i have a baby banana plant that grows really good so far. Today i noticed that in the tube of the new leaf coming there are a lot of small bugs like spiders (i cannot identify them) that make also the leaf be a bit sticky. How am i supposed to treat my plant?
thanks alot

Answer
Hi Maria,

I cannot tell from your description just what plant pests you are seeing, but the treatment is the same regardless.

Mix a solution of 5 parts water, 1 part isopropyl alcohol and a squirt of liquid dish soap. Then thoroughly spray all leaf and stem surfaces until they are dripping wet. Be sure to get the solution inside the nooks and crannies where new leaves emerge. The key to success here is thoroughness of coverage. One thorough treatment is usually sufficient.

I have written an article on treating indoor plant pests that I will email for free to you (or anyone else) who sends a request to me at [email protected].

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
