liquid fertilizer concentration

Question
Hello Will

Not sure if you can answer this, but do you know the effects of concentration(mg/l) of fertilizer on varying plants/crops growth??

Thanks very much for your help.

Answer
Hi Ashmeet,

This sounds like a homework question because it betrays a lack of understanding of the complexities of fertilizing plants.

Fertilizers consist of many different plant nutrients, including nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium, calcium, magnesium, copper and others. Different plant species (crops) use these nutrients in different ratios to one another.

To maximize plant growth, you have to first get the nutrient proportionals in balance. Then you have to know the maximum concentration of these nutrients that the particular plant species can use. Too little will reduce crop yields and too much will damage plant roots. Finally, if the soil pH is not in the correct range, then the nutrients will not be available to the roots in any concentration.

I have written an article on fertilizing that I will email for free to you (or anyone else) who sends a request to me at [email protected].

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
