Yucca Cane

Question
I am a new house plant person and I bought a Yucca Cane and when I recently moved my plant took a hard fall, It had new leaf sprouts coming back until my five year old broke the stem, can I save my plant or is just a failure?

Answer
Barbara,

As soon as the wether is above 40 degrees on the coldest nights you can set your yucca outside if that is possible where you live. Increased sun will help it sprout some new shoots. Then when the temperature is below 40 at night in the fall you will need to take it inside and tech you five year old that he/she can only touch plants with their pointer finger. Or put the plant where the child cannot get to it. Your yucca is a desert plant so it needs lots of sun and it must dry out well between watering. You can take the broken stem and dip it in rooting hormone (that you can get at a garden center) then insert it in new pot of soil and treat it like the original plant. You have a 50/50 chance it will root and thrive. Then you will have 2 yucca plants. Good luck!!
