Question
my indoor yucca cane trees leaves have started to curl a little on the side edges and some leaves have started to bend in the last few days. over the same time i had moved the plant to a window as well. the soil is dry on top and slightly moist at the bottom. i water every other week about a cup and 1/2. i dont know if its too dry or needs to dry out more. any suggestion would be helpful. thank you, valentina

Answer
Hi Valentina,

Your description of your Yucca's symptoms are somewhat vague and you didn't post a photo, so I cannot tell you if there is a problem or just what to do about it. However, I can tel you what your Yucca needs.

Yuccas should stay tightly potted in their plastic nursery pots with the porous potting mix they were grown in. Don't change either.

Place it right in front of your sunniest window that is uncovered throughout the daylight hours.

Allow the top quarter to one-third of the soil to dry before watering. When watering add it slowly until a small amount trickles through the drainage holes.

You don't have to worry about much else with a Yucca. Misting is unnecessary, fertilizing is mostly irrelevant, and this plant is relatively pest-free.

I have written an article on Yucca care that I will email for free to you (or anyone else) who emails a request to me at [email protected].

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
