QUESTION: Outdoors on my screened in porch.  I live in Port Richey, FL, just north of Clearwater.

Answer
Hi Julie,

I have never seen "tiny black crawling bugs" on a Ponytail Palm that is kept indoors. Ponytails can attract white mealybugs; dark brown scale insects that do not crawl; and black flying fungus gnats. I suspect what you are seeing is some insect pest that is indigenous to your local area that, as an indoor plant expert, I have no experience with.
