Pony Tail Palm Question

Question
I was going to purchase a 7.5 foot tall PT Palm from a private person, it had one trunk, with one small very curly one coming out the side and then toward the top it branched out and had several trunks with growth on them, however there was a lot of brown leaves below (on the upper trunks) and the top centers of each new branch was brown.  Is this plant a lost cause? This plant is in a 17 inch pot, so the bulb is large........she was going to charge me $50 which I know these plants go for MUCH more, and I have a ton of houseplants (probably about 10 other PTs, they are one of my favorites)....would this plant be worth purchasing and trying to save?

Answer
Linda,

You did'nt say where you live and if this is an indoor? I am assuming that it is an indoor plant. At 7.5 feet it probably is getting too tall for her house and the top is getting no light. That is why all the brown leaves. This is a sun loving plant. If you can give it more sun you can save it. Just remove the brown leaves, give it lots of sun, a monthly dose of fertilizer and treat it like you do the rest of those you have. I would not repot it unless it breaks it's pot. They do not mind being root bound and a bigger pot will make it grow bigger, unless you have room for bigger. Good luck.
