Ponytail palm plants

Question
My ponytail plant is out on my covered deck.  We have indirect sunlight on my deck.  We live in Florida.  I put the plant out on my deck.  The tips of the palms toward the bottom are turning brown.  I water it about once a week  Is that enough?  The height of the plant is about 2 1/2 feet tall.  Usually in the early morning I put the plant in sunlight for about an hour.  Am I damaging the plant by doing this?  I feed it some liquid fertilizer twice since I got it about a month ago.  Is that hurting the plant.  It is a lovely plant and I do not want to destroy it.

Answer
Mary Ann,

Put your ponytail palm or beaucarnea recurvata out in full sun and treat it like a cactus. Keep it in a sandy soil, water it every 7-10 days, fertilize it once a month. It loves the sun. Be very careful not to overwater! The following site gives more info. Good luck.
