Im trying to germinate S. leucophylla seeds....

Question
I've been stratifying them in a bag with chopped sphagnum moss in my refridgerator for 3 weeks and 3 days.  I took them out slightly early and emptied the contents in a tray full of a peat and moss 50/50 mix.  I then put them in my terrarium which has highland condtions.  Was this the right thing?

Answer
Hi Taylor,

That'll work when it's time to germinate them, but you may have taken them from the refrigerator too early.  Most Sarracenia need at least two months of stratification (cold and moist) to germinate.  My guess is you'll get some germination, but not a high percentage.

Once the plants start growing you can keep them in the terrarium about two years.  After that they will need to begin experiencing dormancy.  They also start getting two big and you won't be able to give them adequate light there.  You should also spray with a sulfur based fungicide as a preventative since terrariums are practically fungal factories.
