Aldrovanda cultivation

Question
I am using a plastic container with garden soil and sand at the bottom.  I also have two water hyacinths growing in there.  I am planning to add a few waterwheels in there but the water becomes murky every time I add it in the tub.  How do I make it so it is not always full of particles?

Answer
Hi Taylor,

Unfortunately, Aldrovanda isn't a plant I've had success with.  I'm going to direct you to a different information source:  http://www.pitcherplant.org/aldrogrow.htm

I can tell you that for a successful pond environment you'll need some circulation.  Having either air bubbling or something like a small fountain for aeration helps greatly with water clarity.  Much of the clarity issues you seem to be having sounds like it's from the garden soil.  The clay is probably making the water cloudy.  If you get some aeration in place give it time.  You should see the water quality improve.

Good Growing!
