Vermiculite

Question
In your "Secrets 1.2" book, you recommend vermiculite in your Premium Mix for Asian Pitcher Plants.

It is my understanding that this can make the mix more basic.  Why is this recommended?

Answer
Hi Michael,

Asian pitcher plants will tolerate a wide range of soil conditions, from acidic to basic.  We've experimented with tons of soil mixes, and found that Nepenthes will grow fine in a vermiculite mix.  When it comes to Nepenthes, as long as the soil is relatively low in nutrients, retains water and provides proper root aeration, the soil will be just fine.  In a future edition of the ebook, we will modify our recommendations to soil mixes with the fewest ingredients.

Good growing!
