soil mix

Question
about 2 weeks ago I mixed some soil mix in a large plastic tote that I closed with the plastic lid, but now the tote has moisture on the sides, should this be fine or will it break the peat moss down? is so how can it make it not have as much moisture in the tote?

Answer
Hi Dillon,

Peat moss stored dry = no problem; can be stored for years.

Peat moss stored wet = will develop mold and can break down over a couple months, especially if it is warm.

If your mix is stored dry there can be residual moisture in the peat, and that is what you may be seeing in the condensation.  It is of no concern.  Try to store your soil media in an opaque container out of the sun.

Good Growing!
