drosera capensis, serracenia purperea, dionaea muscipula

Question
I have one of each of the following: drosera capensis,
serracenia purperea, dionaea muscipula. obviously this is
not relevant for right now as this is spring time. But in
the late fall to winter time i heard from one of your
podcasts to use a bark or mulch. Does it matter what kind?
the nursery i work at sells mini bark nuggets, bark
nuggets, shredded bark, ceder mulch, and all purpose mulch.
Do i need to get some special bog/carnivorous plant mulch?
also how would i apply it..is there some sorta trick. I
live in the bay area of california so it doesnt ever really
get THAT cold.

Answer
Hi Matt,

Lets not worry about winter dormancy right now.  The most important thing I want you to focus on is giving your plant an optimal growing environment so they retain their health throughout the growing season.  When winter nears and you have questions about winter care, definitely write back.

For general information about winter care, read our care sheets:

We also cover winter care more in depth in our ebook and DVD.

Good growing!
