replanting stalky D.capensis

Question
Hi,

I have a Drosera capensis with a stalk that needs to be repotted. Can I just repot the plant deeper in the pot without cutting off the head? It appears to be healthy otherwise, with lots of dewy tentacles. It just has a long neck of about 1.5 inches. I checked the Video 2 and the e-book and they all seem to imply to cut off the head and then plant the root mass and have the new plants that come up as your plant.

Answer
Hi Arthur,

Yes, if you have a pot that's deep enough, you can plant the stem deeper in the soil.  This will encourage roots and possibly new shoots to grow along the stem.

We recommend chopping off the upper portion mostly as a way to get new plants.  You see, you can plant the upper portion, which will develop new roots, so in the end you get two plants.  You will need to chop off the leaves if you do this.  If you're not comfortable with this method, then simply planting the sundew deeper in the soil will also work.

Good growing!
