Nepenthes Sprouts?

Question

Nepenthes
Hello

My Nepenthes started growing little Nepenthes out of the soil and on the stem.  I was mostly wondering when I re-pot the Nepenthe is there a way I can tear or clip these little guys off?  They're already growing pitchers to.

Thanks, Justin

Answer
Hi Justin,

Unfortunately, (or fortunately) these are new shoots coming of the main stem.  They are not separate plants.  If you remove one it won't have roots.  The best approach is to let them grow a few inches then take stem cuttings if you want more plants.  We have complete directions in "Grow Carnivorous Plants" volume #3 DVD on taking Nepenthes cuttings.

Good Growing!
