Nepenthes Growing Point

Question

New Growth
A Nep I got from you guys about a year ago (Mauna Loa) put out a secondary growth point a few months back, and then just a couple days ago I noticed what looks like a second growth point.  The odd thing is that the leaves on this third growth point look nothing like either the leaves of the main plant or the original secondary growth point.  The leaves are jagged.  It is just about at the level of the sphagnum moss, so I suppose it's possible that it's a weed, but it sure looks like it's coming out of the Nep.  What am I looking at?

Thanks for your help!

Answer
Hi Peter,

Thanks for sending a photo.  It always helps.

It's really normal for new shoots like this to have unusual looking leaves.  It is a Nepenthes shoot coming from the main stem.  As it grows, they will return to normal with new ones growing.  It would be nice if they maintained that appearance.  They are really cool looking.

Good Growing!
