Rain upturns soil?

Question
Lately here in Virginia we've been getting some quick but hard rain showers with forceful rain drops. Every time this happen, it really beats up the soil in all of my plants. Sometimes it even exposes the roots of some of my sarracenia!

Should I be worried about this? If so, how should I protect my flytraps and sarracenia? Won't a tarp crush / trigger their traps?

Answer
Hi Michael,

It's not a big concern.  If you top-dress your pots with some of your sphagnum moss it will help.  You can also use pea gravel.  It helps to stop the splash erosion.

As far as the traps on the Flytraps and dealing with heavy rain, they deal with the same thing in their native North Carolina.  I'm not sure what you mean by the tarp.

Good Growing!
