RE: bladderwort

Question
Hi,
I live in Michigan and have a u.gibba bladderwort and wanted to know what kind of water to put it in. I have it in spring water right now but someone said to put in R O water but I cant find any at the store and I don't have any at my house. Also I have it in about a 10 gallon pot and I wanted to know how often I should clean it and how to clean it, and i need to know what I should do to with my fountain that I put in the pot. At first the fountain was fine in the pot with the bladderwort then I put the peat moss in the pot and the pump on the fountain started sucking all the peat moss in so I put a filter box on it  and that help it stop sucking in all the peat moss but it started sucking in my bladderwort. So I don't know what to do for my bladderwort and really really need some help and I really hope you can help.

Thank you

Answer
Hello Hannah

10 gallons pot is perfect.
Use demineralized/distilled water, its like reverse osmosis water and you can find some almost everywhere at low price.
Spring water have high ppm (dissolved salts) and will slowly kill your plant.

You have to clean your pot/aquarium every 2-3 months. Just empty the thing, clean it with clear water and replace your plant.
Remember, your plant have to touch the peat moss.
In the wild, u.gibba is always on the sides, never in middle of water. If you want more flower, add more water.

For the fountain, try one or two box filters, or no fountain at all.
I grow my aquatic utricularia without any filter, and with periodic cleans, your plant will be fine.

Remember, you can add some aquatic plant fertilized to the water. (1/4 dosage).

Hope this will help!
