Question
I have a prickly pear cactus and would like to take cuttings. If I take a cutting should I leave the cut part out of the soil for a while to "scar"? How long should I leave it out?
Also...when I plant the cutting should I not water it for a while? How long?

Prickly pears are about the easiest cactus to propagate. Yes, you are right on track. Let the cut part heal before planting it. Make sure the soil is moist when you finally plant it in the soil. Water only when it is completely dry. Once you see some new growth, then you can start watering on a more regular basis.

Depending on the species, do not over water. Most prickly pears (Opuntias) are drought resistant and do not need a lot of water. Good luck!
