Storm damaged Maple tree

Question
Maple tree
Maple tree
During a recent rainstorm in NJ, a branch section of a very large and extremely tall maple broke off. The large fallen limb is hollow on the inside and rotten in some areas. The tree is situated in front of our home and also near power lines. It leans slightly toward our house. My gut instinct tells me that it needs to be taken down before more of it falls perhaps next time onto our house or people walking in the sidewalk. It is a very large tree. Please look at the photo and tell me if you think there is a chance that this tree is at all healthy or if it is too risky to be left standing? What do you think?

Answer
Katherine:
Based on your inquiry and photo, I agree.  This tree is a great candidate for firewood!  The internal decay will weaken its support.  If left standing, the next storm may cause even more damage as a result of tree failure.  Sounds like a real potential hazard.
