red acer

Question
QUESTION: i have like a brown shell with like a white powdery substance growing up the bark of my red acer tree. also the leaves not all look like they have been dipped in bleach

ANSWER: Hi Sue

It sounds like you have a scale problem.  You can spray these affected ares with insecticidal oils.  You will need to spray several times to get this problem under control.

QUESTION: Hi james thankyou for your reply, i have attached some images for you. is there a name for this oil spray it would be handy to know. thanks Sue

Answer
Sue

That looks like larva from any number of flying insects.  You definetly have an infestation of some kind brought on by spring weather.

Go to www.atomicgrow.net.  There you will find a product called Atomic Grow sold by Kathy Crowley.  Crowleys Nursery in Sarasota FL.

It is a foliar spray and will dislodge the larva or insects causing them to fall off the tree.  Once they are removed the product will heal the tree as well.  Atomic Grow is systemic and will enter through the leaves and bark.  It will cleanse your tree systemically just as it will cleanse it externally.  Once this de-tox occurs your Red Acer will be able to defend itself much better in the future and the product can be used on your other plants as well.

I have used it commercially for many years.

Email me if you have any more questions.
