crabapple disease

Question
crabapple disease
crabapple disease
QUESTION: thank you for your response.  i have attached a photo of the tree.  the galls are all along the trunk of the tree so i am worried.  sure hope my tree will survive.  i love the way it provides shade over the table on our patio.  thank you for all your advice!

ANSWER: Kathy:
I got your two photos.  This is not black knot as I mentioned earlier.  These swellings can be caused by numerous things. It would be difficult to tell w/o examining the interior of the stem.  These look a lot like adventitious roots rather than anything else.  Best advise= avoid wounding the trunk with lawnmowers, string trimmers, other machinery. Water and fertilize appropriately and I think you will have a lot of years left to enjoy.

Steve

Kathy:
Thanks for your comments! I enjoy hearing feedback (especially when it is good LOL!!).

Hope you have a wonderful spring.  I already have spring fever symptoms and can't wait to get to the garden centers and nurseries to see all of the color.
Have a great season.

Steve
