Japanese dwarf red maple tree disease

Could you please tell me what is happening to my tree, I have a large section in only the front of the tree where the leaves are turning brown and crinkling up, the back of the tree looks fine and health.

Hi Lori:

This does not sound like a bug or disease. Has anything been sprayed on the tree or poured on the ground below this area? Have you had an electrical storm in which lightning may have struck the tree? This may be a possibility if it happened suddenly. These are some ideas or "guesses". You are welcome to send along a photo if you are still puzzled.
