Crystal like formation around trees & plants

Question

Crystal like formation
I have a very strange crystal like formation around my cherry tree, tomato plant, zucchini plant, and cantaloupe.  The crystal like formation is jelly like, sticky, and moist.  The cherry Tree is old, we've had it in our garden about 8 years and surrounded by miniature thyme.  The tomato plant and zucchini are in separate flower bed planted in mushroom soil.  The cantaloupe is yet in another flower bed planted in potting mix soil and mulch on top.  I've never seen anything like it and I was hoping you might have some ideas!

Houda:
I'm afraid that I do not know what this material might be. Consider collecting some of this and showing it to someone at your local nursery/garden center. Has anything been added to the soil such as any moisture control soil ammendments? There is a product that you can buy that looks like white granules and it absorbs water and swells to a jelly consistency. It is used as a soil additive to hold water.
