i have a butterwort and a venus flytrap. first time trying to grow . i have the soil mix. plants are 2in hi.when can i put them in pots and how to take care of them .they will go outside when weather changes. zone 6

Answer
Hi Toni,

The instructions for growing these plants are a bit extensive to convey in this format, so I'm going to refer you to our care sheets at:
http://www.cobraplant.com/caresheets

However, before growing your plants outdoors, first repot them into a fresh soil mix of 1 part peat moss and 1 part perlite.  You mentioned that you have the soil mix, but I want to make sure you have the correct soil mix for carnivorous plants.  Avoid using regular potting soil.  The soil needs to be acidic, nutrient-free and have lots of drainage.

After repotting your plants, place them in a south window where they can get lots of sunlight.  Keep the pots in small amounts of standing water.  Use distilled water if your water contains lots of minerals.

When the risk of frost has passed, late May in zone 6, you can safely acclimate your plants to outdoor growing.  Provide the recommended sunlight indicated in our care sheets.

Good growing!
Jacob Farin
