Japanese Plum tree fell over

Question
I believe this tree is diseased and want to know what to do to safeguard (if possible) the other trees in my yard.  The Japanese Plum, about 10-15 feet tall, fell over last night.  No roots were pulled from the ground, just like the roots had disconnected themselves or rotted.  The bark on the tree had yellowy/green moldy stuff on it.  It normally bares miniture sized sour plums, the birds love them.  My concern is that the larger trees in my yard may have the same problem and don't know what to look for or what to do.  I have two Cedar trees (very tall) and an old Pecan tree probably planted in the twenties.  Large pieces of the Pecan tree fall off from time to time, mostly during high winds.  This house was built around 1920, so the remaining trees could be that old.  Thanks for your input.

Answer
Hi Valerie,  Well for sure it was a fungus that finally did your tree in.  All the trees sound very old and each has a life expectancy of which I do not know.  You can google each tree to find out how long they are expected to live.  It should not jump to the other trees and branches falling during wind is common.  I believe plum trees have a short life and if it has lived that long you have done everything right.  kathy
