Question
My plum tree has many sap like formations on it and the branches that these formations are on appear to be dieing. There is also a formation on the trunk. Do you think this is an isect infestation?

Hi Jeff,  The sap coming out of the tree means you have borers inside.  You can take a sewing needle and jab into the area to kill the bug.  You can give it a systemic which is usually poison or you can try a product called Atomic Grow which is organic.  I would use the needle to begin with.  kathy
