Bare spots in bark on mimosa tree.

Question
I live in the Ft. Worth,TX area and have a large mimosa tree which has developed bare spots in the bark on several limbs. They do not appear to have been gnawed. What could have caused this?

Answer
Melvin:
The bare spots that you describe- are these areas with no branching?  I am not sure what you are concerned about.  Can you possibly send me a photo of such an area/spot?  Take a few images, review them on your computer to be sure they are in focus, then send the best one.  Seeing one of these spots will help me.  Does the tree look good otherwise.  Any evidence of damage to the bark on the trunk or do you see any mushrooms near the base of the tree?

Regards
Steve
