Huge 50 year old tree with mushrooms growing at the base on one side... Help to resolve. I dont want to lose this beautiful old tree

Hi Jenny:
Can you send me a photo of these mushrooms?  They may be associated with a root disease if they are physically attached to the tree.  Unfortunately, there is no magic bullet here.  This disease may have been in progress for some time.  Only good fertilization and watering can prolong the life of the tree- that and preventing any injury to the trunk that can increase stress.
