Question
I have just planted some cardinal flowers and a butterfly bush that I was give by someone that just dug them up.

i dug a very wide hole and put in potting soil with the dirt.  i also watered them throughly

Now should i cut them back or leave them as they are?

i live in Northern Ohio and we are not yet freezing.

Thanks

Answer
John,
You can trim the butterfly bush now or in the spring.  It's already going through transplant trauma so I'd wait till spring.
The flowers should be trimmed back-but you can wait-let them get all cozy first.
You might want to get some liquid "Root Stimulator" and water both.  It really helps new roots to establish.
