crab grass control in the heat

Question
What can I do about crabgrass control (post emergent) in the hot
dry St. Louis heat?  It seems to be taking over the entire yard.  I am
somewhat afraid that if I successfully kill it  I won't have any green
in my yard.
Thanks for your response.

Answer
First of all, Kathy, what kind of grass are you growing? What have you "treated" your turf with during the past year? Are you watering your grass?  What height is your lawnmower set for and what kind of mower are you using?

It sounds - because of your phrasing, "if I successfully kill it", words used by chemically-dependant grass growers - like you are generally considering the (dangerous) option of something like Roundup, Weedbgone, Weedandfeed, or all of the above...?

rsvp - need these details to figure out your options.  If you do not know an answer, go ahead and say so - "do not know" or "not sure".  We'll work from there.

Thanks for writing.  Please respond asap.
