what is the better grass seed

Question
My daughter lot is strickley sand.
What kind of grass will grow better in that type of soil?

Answer
Hi Chris;
It depends on where you live as to which type of grass is best.
A too sandy lot need to be improved before any grass is planted.
If there is clay soil anywhere near you, I would buy some of that and mix it in with the sand. till you get some good soil that is not too loose.
You could also till in a lot of bark mulch, about half bark mulch and half soil that is there now. That bark mulch will compost and make decoent soil. I would till in this way,,,, 1 part existing sandy soil, 1 part bark mulch, and 1 part good loam, or even clay soil.
That would give enough substance for the soil to hold water long enough to do the grass some good, and check with your local nurseryman as to what grasses grow best in her area.
